Foster families are always in desperate need. If you are unable to commit to adoption, you can be a great transition home while a pet in need waits for their furever home. This enables them to live free of a cage and opens up space for another homeless animal to be brought into a shelter or rescue facility.
FEES:
All of our rescue animals are spayed or neutered and fully vaccinated before adoption.
Adoption fees help to offset these costs, as well as their veterinary visits, food and boarding while in our care.

Lexi has not had an easy life but her spirit is not broken. RTHRS saved her from being euthanized a few years ago. After losing her first foster, and having ACL surgery, we found what we thought would be her Forever Foster. Devastatingly for Lexi, her forever foster mom had to leave her apartment and could not find one that was dog friendly in time. So now Lexi is back in boarding and Homeless! Lexi has done NOTHING wrong to deserve this and is the one who is suffering! Regardless of all of the bouncing around she has done, she has not lost her light and needs us to help her find a true forever. A home where she will never have to worry about leaving again! We are fortunate to have a wonderful supporter of RTHRS taking her out every day but Lexi is starting to shows signs of stress.
Lexi is beautiful, sweet, housebroken, and a true love bug She listens well to corrections and is very smart.
We would love for Lexi to have a home with a fenced in yard. A home with teens and up would be best, due to her size. She would LOVE a strong handler who would take her for long walks, give her structure and let her cuddle up to them at night
Due to Lexiâs past, she MUST be the only pet in the home. This should not be a problem, as she has enough love to fill anyoneâs heart and home !

She does take time to warm up to a new person but once she does, she will be your best buddy!

Ace weighs in at 55lbs and is a little cuddle bug. He knows all the basic commands and is leashed trained but spooks easily. Ace is very sensitive to loud noises so should never be left outside alone or for long periods of time. When spooked Ace will cower in fear so a calm and patient human is needed. Ace is food motivated so training is a breeze. No cats and kids 12 and up would be best. Ace is dog selective and does best with females 50lbs and up. After Lulu's human passed she was bounced around to multiple rescues and shelters before coming here. She took a long time to trust and needs someone who is patient with her. If you let her learn to trust she will do backflip for you. She loves to cuddle, hates the outdoors, will poop and pee on pee pads or a fenced in yard but will not poop or pee on a leash
She is crate trained..mostly house trained...and will cuddle to the end if you give he time to warm up. Lulu is a diamond in the rough just waiting for a human that will appreciate what a gem she truly is.

He is a dog that needs a firm loving hand - not a heavy hand! He has had heavy hand and it didn't work. He will try shenanigans with new people but a firm "enough" ends it.
Charlie has a wide eyed wonderment for the world. He was very isolated, beaten and hurt. Charlie Bean is afraid but patience has won him over into a much calmer soul.
He CAN play with other dogs ...but he plays hard and needs someone his size so small dogs are out.
If you go slow with Charlie he learns to trust quickly....and that is what you will need for an amazing life with this giant goofball.
He was loved as a puppy but as he got older he wasn't taught manners...then when he got big he was thrown away.
Charlie needs a family who loves him..and his big gentle spirit...and more training with you to fit into your family. Charlie could have died....but he was saved...and now he gives love like he knew once long ago.

Despite his situation, Legs is friendly to people, cats and dogs. Sweet, loves to be petted and purrs like a little motor boat.
Finder can hold him temporarily not to place him back outside but he needs a forever home.

This beautiful boy came from a Long Island shelter where he had lived for a long time and was tortured by kennel life. Garrett was filled with so much anxiety that he would always carry a toy for security. After Garrett joined us at RTHRS he became calmer and happier. He was adopted out to a couple who loved him dearly but after a year were forced to give him and due to no fault of his own. So, now this 10 year old boy is back in rescue waiting and hoping!!! Buttons has been through a lot in her short life. We were alerted that Buttons was being abandoned by her owner, an owner that had Buttons since she was a kitten.
Buttons owner started leaving her alone for days at a time. Buttons acted out, and her owner thrust her outside and wouldn't let her back in. If Buttons came to the door, her owner would spray her in the face with a water bottle.
Poor Buttons was abandoned and neglected by the one person who was supposed to love her.
A concerned neighbor called us, after witnessing how sweet Buttons was being treated and hearing that the owner was calling shelters requesting they pick her up.
When we took Buttons in, she was covered in fleas and ticks. She hadn't been to the vet since she was a kitten, and was way past due on her vaccinations and wellness checks. We took her to the vet and she had a full work up. Thankfully, Buttons is healthy!
Buttons was very stressed, and needed a safe place to decompress. She had been an only kitty her entire life, and was never socialized.
Initially, a foster stepped up to hold Buttons temporarily. The foster had other cats and Buttons was scared and aggressive with them. The foster had to keep Buttons in a large crate. We didn't think this would be an ideal situation, and hoped another foster would be able to take Buttons.
The foster tried to keep Buttons out of the crate, but she was having trouble getting along with the other cats. Soon, she will be moved to the fosters office, so she can have her own space, but being alone in a room is not the kind of life Buttons deserves.
Buttons enjoys to be pet and loves to play. She does not like to be touched on her lower back or tail, and so, we recommend her in a home with teens and up.
Buttons is located in Holtsvillle, NY and is between 3 and 4 years old.

This sweet girl was having a tough time outside, being bullied by other cats. Then she was injured on the train tracks and seen tumbling down the hill. When she got up, the poor girl was limping.
Luckily, once she was safe, we discovered that she is a complete love bug. Honey is super friendly and will make whoever adopts her very happy.
Honey, just a baby herself, was pregnant when we took her in and very far along. She gave birth to 4 beautiful babies.

Both of these boys are very sweet and affectionate. They need someone patient, who will give them time to acclimate to a new home. They've been through so much, don't they deserve a little peace?
They need dental work, and Last Hope Rescue will cover that. They are easy to handle and take medications without any difficulty.

Her Story:
Autumn is a lab mix found, who found herself pregnant in an Alabama shelter. Road to home pulled many favors to get her out and transported to a northern foster.
Once in our care, Autumn had a litter of 12 kittens on Thanksgiving. Sadly, only 8 survived, but the ones that did are doing great! Autumn is wonderful with her puppies and will be available for adoption as soon as her puppies are adopted.

He was taken in after a routine TNR (trap neuter release) and it was discovered that he was gentle and could be handled. The poor little guy was having a difficult time living outdoors, He had wounds on him that were healing and his skin was very rough (we suspect a flea allergy).
He has flourished indoors and is ready to find his forever home. Powder is estimated to be 5 or 6 years old and is located in Holtsville, NY.

PROCESS:
Foster families are always in desperate need. If you are unable to commit to adoption, you can be a great transition home while a pet in need waits for their furever home. This enables them to live free of a cage and opens up space for another homeless animal to be brought into a shelter or rescue facility.
FEES:
All of our rescue animals are spayed or neutered and fully vaccinated before adoption.
Adoption fees help to offset these costs, as well as their veterinary visits, food and boarding while in our care.
Puppies age 2-4 months $350

After losing her first foster, and having ACL surgery, we found what we thought would be her Forever Foster. Devastatingly for Lexi, her forever foster mom had to leave her apartment and could not find one that was dog friendly in time. So now Lexi is back in boarding and Homeless! Lexi has done NOTHING wrong to deserve this and is the one who is suffering! Regardless of all of the bouncing around she has done, she has not lost her light and needs us to help her find a true forever. A home where she will never have to worry about leaving again! We are fortunate to have a wonderful supporter of RTHRS taking her out every day but Lexi is starting to shows signs of stress. Lexi is beautiful, sweet, housebroken, and a true love bug She listens well to corrections and is very smart. We would love for Lexi to have a home with a fenced in yard. Ace didn't get a whole lotta lovin in his first 2 years but we are hoping to change all that. Ace weighs in at 55lbs and is a little cuddle bug. He knows all the basic commands and is leashed trained but spooks easily. Ace is very sensitive to loud noises so should never be left outside alone or for long periods of time. When spooked Ace will cower in fear so a calm and patient human is needed. Ace is food motivated so training is a breeze. No cats and kids 12 and up would be best. Meet Lulu ....a 10 year old Jack Russell Terrier Needs an experienced owner with a slow hand. Lulu lived with an 80 yr old woman but was hurt by her caregiver. After Lulu's human passed she was bounced around to multiple rescues and shelters before coming here. She took a long time to trust and needs someone who is patient with her. If you let her learn to trust she will do backflip for you. She loves to cuddle, hates the outdoors, will poop and pee on pee pads or a fenced in yard but will not poop or pee on a leash She is crate trained..mostly house trained...and will cuddle to the end if you give he time to warm up. Charlie Bean is a 2 - 3 year old neutered male. He needs slow intros to new people due to the fact that people have hurt him in his past. He is a dog that needs a firm loving hand - not a heavy hand! He has had heavy hand and it didn't work. He will try shenanigans with new people but a firm "enough" ends it. Charlie has a wide eyed wonderment for the world. He was very isolated, beaten and hurt. Charlie Bean is afraid but patience has won him over into a much calmer soul. He CAN play with other dogs ...but he plays hard and needs someone his size so small dogs are out. If you go slow with Charlie he learns to trust quickly....and that is what you will need for an amazing life with this giant goofball. Buttons: Still waiting for a Foster or a Home...She has not had even 1 inquiry... Buttons has been through a lot in her short life. We were alerted that Buttons was being abandoned by her owner, an owner that had Buttons since she was a kitten. Buttons owner started leaving her alone for days at a time. Buttons acted out, and her owner thrust her outside and wouldn't let her back in. If Buttons came to the door, her owner would spray her in the face with a water bottle. Poor Buttons was abandoned and neglected by the one person who was supposed to love her. A concerned neighbor called us, after witnessing how sweet Buttons was being treated and hearing that the owner was calling shelters requesting they pick her up. When we took Buttons in, she was covered in fleas and ticks. She hadn't been to the vet since she was a kitten, and was way past due on her vaccinations and wellness checks. We took her to the vet and she had a full work up. Thankfully, Buttons is healthy! Buttons was very stressed, and needed a safe place to decompress. She had been an only kitty her entire life, and was never socialized. Initially, a foster stepped up to hold Buttons temporarily. The foster had other cats and Buttons was scared and aggressive with them. The foster had to keep Buttons in a large crate. We didn't think this would be an ideal situation, and hoped another foster would be able to take Buttons. The foster tried to keep Buttons out of the crate, but she was having trouble getting along with the other cats. Soon, she will be moved to the fosters office, so she can have her own space, but being alone in a room is not the kind of life Buttons deserves. Buttons enjoys to be pet and loves to play. She does not like to be touched on her lower back or tail, and so, we recommend her in a home with teens and up. Buttons is located in Holtsvillle, NY and is between 3 and 4 years old. Hi, it's me Autumn...I know my puppies are cute, but now that I have my girlish figure back I'm hoping I too will find a home of my own. I'm a super love bug and a great mommy. I will be tested with other dogs once my puppies go home in a few months. I'm about 18-24 months old and 40ish pounds. I can be a tad shy if you come toward me too fast, but I'm hoping you'll understand since I was shot at some point 🙁 If you would like to get pre-approved to adopt me: email Adopt@RoadtoHomeRescue.org Her Story: Autumn is a lab mix found, who found herself pregnant in an Alabama shelter. Road to home pulled many favors to get her out and transported to a northern foster. Once in our care, Autumn had a litter of 12 kittens on Thanksgiving. Sadly, only 8 survived, but the ones that did are doing great! Autumn is wonderful with her puppies and will be available for adoption as soon as her puppies are adopted.

Powder is shy and sweet, and he has a passion for food. He gets along very well with other cats and doesn't have a mean bone in his body. He was taken in after a routine TNR (trap neuter release) and it was discovered that he was gentle and could be handled. The poor little guy was having a difficult time living outdoors, He had wounds on him that were healing and his skin was very rough (we suspect a flea allergy). He has flourished indoors and is ready to find his forever home. Powder is estimated to be 5 or 6 years old and is located in Holtsville, NY. To Adopt: email Adopt@RoadtoHomeRescue.org
